Former Brenham and University
of Texas track & field star Andra Manson is getting
ready for his opportunity to jump for his country.
Manson will be jumping Thursday night in the US Olympic trials in
Eugene, Oregon.
The high jump qualifying is set for Thursday night at 6:30 CT.
The finals are Saturday afternoon.
Manson enters the event as the #3-ranked high jumper in the world,
taking the bronze medal at the World Championships in Madrid, Spain
earlier this year. Manson is
the reigning U.S. Champion, and has a top jump this year of 7’7-3/4”.
Manson was a state champion with the Brenham Cubs, and Big-12 and
NCAA champion with the Longhorns.
Highlights of the trials can be seen Thursday night beginning at
10:00 on USA Network. |

MAJEWSKI HONORED BY TEXAS LEAGUE |

Former Brenham Cub Dustin Majewski, an outfielder with the AA Frisco RoughRiders, has been named the Texas League Player of the Week.
In five games last week, Majewski went 10-for-25 (.400) with three
home runs, two doubles, and nine RBI.
Majewski is hitting .292 on the season with five homers and 43 RBI.
He leads the RoughRiders with 40 walks on the year, which is also fourth
in the Texas League.

Courtney Sokol of Brenham finished fourth in Barrel Racing at the College National Finals Rodeo. She competed for Texas A&M at the Casper (WY) Events Center.
Sokol turned in a :14.42 in the finals to finish with a total time of :58.25,
placing her fourth overal. Sokol's three runs (in order) were: :14.83,
:14.42 and :14.58. New Mexico State's Bailey Gow won the event with a
total time of :57.92.
Another local connection is CNFR announcer Boyd Polhamus, who
is also from Brenham.

McWILLIAMS
PLAYS IN "OIL BOWL" |

Former Brenham Cubs football player Harrison McWilliams took to the field again this weekend, as Texas took on Oklahoma in the annual Oil Bowl in Wichita Falls.
Oklahoma edge the Texas stars, 17-16. McWilliams played most of the the game at defensive end, recording two tackles. McWilliams now leaves Tuesday, for the Air Force Academy where he will attend college and play for the Falcons' football team. McWilliams was also the subject of a feature article in the Wichita Falls Times Record News, "Proud to Serve". |

Brenham High School Tennis players fared well this past weekend at a
tournament in College Station, facing competition from College Station,
Burton, Bryan, Tyler, Chappel Hill and Livingston. Nicholas
Prenzler won the boys
singles division. Nicholas
Pfeffer advanced to
the quarterfinals, and Wesley
Pryor and Kyle
Bentke made it to
the second round. Sydney Johns came in 1st and Stefanie Wisneiske placed 2nd in the girls division. Rebecca Wisneiske qualified for the quarterfinals, while Emily McGarity and Lisa Bentke made it to the second round.

Former Blinn
Lady Buc basketball player Timila
Martin has been named Texas Junior College Player of the Year
by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. The Texas
Tech signee and Bryan native was also named Most Valuable
Player in Region XIV and NJCAA All American in 2007. Martin averaged 15.7
points and 4.1 assists per game. Her
486 points this season were the fifth-most in Blinn team history. Martin helped lead Blinn College to the most wins in school history with 26.
